For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.
( Psalm 62:5)
None of us enjoy the prospect of waiting on God’s timing when we are in the midst of a painful trial. It is so hard not to look at our impossible circumstance and still believe that God is working all things out. It is especially difficult when the enemy uses our emotions to make us think that we have no hope and that it is out of our control.
In God’s word, we read that being out of our own control is actually a victory. Every time God led his people to victory, he had to first render them powerless in their own might. Job lost his children, his riches and his health but God was still able to bless the second half of his life more than the first. Gideon’s army of 32,000 was reduced to just 300 men who had no weapons, yet with God’s power they were able to take down the Midian army and make them flee. King Hezekiah was no match for the vast Assyrian army who was coming against the Israelites. However, during the night, the angel of the Lord went through the enemy’s camp and struck down 185,000 Midianites. The Israelites rose the next morning to find that the entire army was defeated by the hand of God. Remember that the outcome of every battle you face is always victory when you are in Christ!
You will still have enemies to fight in this perishing world but they have no power to destroy you. All they will do is reveal that you have been declared a conqueror through the power of your God. Because of what Christ has done for us, you have reason for hope knowing that your future is established in heaven.
When Peter saw Christ walking on the water, he spoke out, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” ( Matthew 14:28) Jesus told him to come, and Peter got out and began walking on top of the water. Yet when he saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink. What made Peter afraid? The same wind and waves were there when he got out of the boat. Somehow, as he walked on the water toward Christ, Peter took his eyes from him. As the wind blew and waves rose, Peter stopped believing that Christ alone could keep him safe on the water and started to think that he needed to do something to stay up there, too. Once you believe that Christ is not enough for your impossible situation, you begin to sink. You look to your own power and strength to overcome your struggle and it will never be enough. It is only in surrendering completely your weakness that you gain Christ’s strength! Your faith is revealed when you trust that you do not have to see the answer to your prayer to know that it is before the throne of God and under his authority.
Victory over all of your trials comes when you can trust that God’s timing is right and that his will is perfect. Peace comes from knowing that God will never fail you no matter how impossible your situation seems. He takes no pleasure in having you wait but each one of your struggles is a divine appointment with a merciful God who wants to reveal more of himself to you. The testing of your faith produces a steadfastness that will have its complete effect that you may be perfect, complete and lacking in nothing. ( James 1:4) There is a purpose for your pain. It is working out a greater good. It is preparing you to be royalty, reigning with Christ in a kingdom that will never end. Though the days grow dark and filled with evil, believers have nothing to fear for their future is one of power.
We are told in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” “Although God’s ways may be hard to figure out, remember that he took you this far and he is more than able to get you to the finish line!
Don’t let your heart be troubled by the problems of this world. Christ is coming back soon to make all things new. Keep your eyes on Christ and focus on what is true and right. The lies of the enemy have no power to steal your joy so don’t willingly give it up to him. Hold on to the heritage that you have because of what Christ sacrificed for us. Stand strong to the end knowing that God’s plan for you will work out not only for today but for ten thousand years down the way when you shall still find ways to praise him for all he has done. God’s faithfulness will never end.

Hi Larry, thank you for always, always being so encouraging. In my current trial, I know how hard it is to wait upon God. Yet, my faith must withstand the wait because it is what separates me from the world. I must keep my eyes on Christ. He is not going to fail me or anyone else who calls upon his name. These dark days are hard on all of God’s people but we are a proven people who trust that Christ is more than enough to get us through.
My friend, I really appreciate you stopping by and commenting. You truly bless me.

Thank you so much for your words of comfort and guidance. I discovered you online about 9 months ago when I was going through a difficult time in my life. It was like God lead me to your website because – to be honest with you – I had never heard of you! Your words and prayers and scripture references played a major part in my overcoming that difficult period. I have a whole new set of difficulties right now – and they are probably more serious than what I was going through 9 months ago. But this time, I feel God’s guidance and presence with me all of the time! And He sends me your words when I am having a “temporary” struggle – and once I read them – I almost automatically feel a sense of peace.
thank you again

Every time we stand in faith in the face of a painful trial and trust that God is not going to fail us, we bring him great honor. Hi Reilly, It was a blessing for me that you stopped and commented. I know it is hard for us to trust that God has our lives under control when we don’t see how it is going to work out. As we learn to take him at his word and trust him in the darkness, we have peace no matter what comes against us.
I hope you come back, Reilly. Always nice to meet another friend.

God definately lead me to your site. I am struggling with trying to find peace in my pain. I just typed in google “How to get peace from God when you are in Pain” & your blog caught my eye. I know it was from the Lord because all morning I have been thinking about Peter & the boat & then I see it in your blog! God is good. I never had too many struggles in life, but for the past 4 months I have been struggling & it’s getting so hard to wait for my healing. I am like Peter & I’m sinking in the water. I thank you for your post. I need to focus more on Jesus instead of listening to the deceivers voice. God is using you, thank you 🙂

Hi Amy, I am so glad that God led you to this site. I will be praying for you, my sister. I know when we are in the midst of a struggle that we sometimes take our eyes from Christ, the source of our strength. The truth is that if you continue to stand in the battle, trusting Christ and keeping your eyes on him, he will NEVER let you be defeated or destroyed. Never let the lies of the enemy take you down. Remember that he is a defeated enemy whom Christ has put under our feet. He can’t steal your future so all he can do is make you think he can. I know it is hard to wait on the answer to your prayer. Remember that if you belong to Christ, your prayer has already been answered. You just need to wait for the time of perfection when God will make it all work out. Hang in there and don’t be discouraged. He is working all things out for a specific divine purpose for your life.
I am here if you want to talk. I will be praying for you. Keep reading your bible each morning and let the truth be your guide and strength. Christ speaks to you through his word. Never forget that you are never alone in your pain. God bless you, dear sister.

Hi Marianne,
This is excellent! I am someone who wants to be in control of my life. It is difficult to think, “it is when I am out of control, then I have victory.” But it is so much better when we go through our various trials, that we do it with Jesus’ strength and Him in control.
Blessings,
Ken

Hi Ken, I also want to be in control of my life and that is the reason that I keep making poor choices. I have learned to surrender my will and my ways up to Christ because only then can he work out my life according to HIS plan which is always good. We don’t have the power to win the battles against the enemy unless we allow Christ to fight for us.
God bless you always, my dear brother!

Thank you for your encouraging blog. It comforts my soul. I’ve been without work for 9 months after living pretty comfortably before my job loss. I have come to the end of my savings account and am now standing before God in complete and total reliance on Him because I have run out of all my worldly resources and strength. And I have a pretty good idea, He wants me here. But I do get discouraged thinking He may have abandoned me here until I read encouraging words like yours and my faith is renewed and hope restored to go another day.

Marianne Bernard
Hi Jennifer, I am so glad you stopped and commented. I am going to keep you in prayer for your job situation. I know what you are talking about when you face uncertainty in your financial and job situation. It can be tough to wait on God and to believe that he is with you in this. My sister, I am also waiting on God and I know what you are feeling. But we who belong to Christ know in our heart that the God who created us and who has a plan for us is not going to now abandon us. We know that his love will work out our struggles and provide us with a future with hope. My dear sister, the wait in your life is preparing you for something greater! God is stretching your faith so that you will be ready for what he has for you. Remember in Genesis how Joseph had to wait in prison for over 10 years for something he didn’t do. God was taking that young shepherd boy and molding him into royal ruler. He was getting his heart equipped to be second high4est in all of Egypt. I don’t know what God is working out in your life, Jennifer. I just know that he has something planned and his plans for you are always good. I will be praying for you. Stay strong and remember you can email me anytime you need to talk.

Hi Natasha, The word of God tells us that we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. That means that we no longer have to be a slave to sin and deception. I know it is hard to stand in your faith when your family is not supporting your faith. Just keep reading God’s word and he will strengthen you and help you to make the right choices. You did the right thing in not giving in to your boyfriend. He is the one living in a fairytale and one day he will see the consequence for what he does. Sadly, the world is lost on this issue and to most sex outside of marriage is not a big deal. The truth is that it violates God’s ways in that sex was made for marriage. Never sell yourself short, my sister. Hold out until there is a young man with the same values and respect for you. I am proud of you for standing firm in your resolve to live for Christ. I will be praying for you, Natasha. I am here if you ever need to talk.

I don’t want to be the one to rain on the parade, but at the point I’m at in my pain and waiting I don’t see any comfort here (or anywhere). I believe in God, I have seen him work and cannot deny him. However I have been waiting three years for him to move, and midway through the fourth. At this point my church isn’t taking my calls, and when they do they admonish me for being unhappy, or feeling hurt when all they have to say is that it will get better. No one knows when. Hoped deferred makes the heart sick, and I feel very sick indeed when I think about how much I hoped in and trusted God to do, and how dark and hopeless my life has become since I believed him that it would get better. I will chase him and I will wait and wait. The fact of the matter is every day that comes the only light I see is that I will die one day, and maybe I can bring that closer. I don’t see love, and I sure don’t see any compassion or empathy from my fellow christians. I see plenty of people who want to live in some sort of deceptive anti reality waiting on hope that has no delivery date. Then they accuse you of listening to lies for asking for the pain to end. I beg, plead, fast, give sacrificially, and study scripture day and night. There are no answers, only more questions. Where is God? Why does his love for me mean another day of pain and regret? His perfect will and his glory? Yes, I believe that for HIM it’s all working out wonderfully. For me however, well, I don’t matter. He is my source and the only one that can determine my true value. By putting me in this situation where I am used but not blessed, tested but not rewarded, and rewarded for my devotion and prayer with unending agony.

Marianne Bernard
Hi Max, first of all I want to say that I am sorry for what you are going through. I have been through some very tough times recently in my life and it has not been easy for me, either. I understand how easy it is to grow weary and feel like giving up or that God doesn’t care. That is simply a lie from hell. I know it seems like God is not hearing your or answering your prayers but if you belong to him, he cannot hold back anything good from you. It is just that we want things our way and in our timing and I have found out that it doesn’t work that way. Even when I don’t see him working out my situation or audibly hear his voice or feel him, I know that he is with me and that he is completing the good work he started in me. I know that by faith. I take God at his word. If I had to see the end of the tunnel or know right now how he is going to help me then I would be no different than the lost of this world. They want answers right now also.
Max, God does have a perfect plan for your life but the wait is part of the answer. He is getting you ready for what he has for you not necessarily what you think you need. That sounds simplistic and I am sure that you don’t want to hear that but it is the truth. God does not hold back one good thing for one second from those who belong to him.
I know you are struggling with all this, Max, and I would like to talk to you more and pray with you. Please email me at mbernard4477@gmail.com and we can reason from God’s word about your situation. Even when you don’t see him, Max, his eyes are always on you! He sees your future. Nothing can stop what he planned for your life. Don’t give up and grow weary. Take heart and know that the God who created you loves you enough to help you through this life.
I am praying for you and hope that you will write. God knows where you are, my friend. He is not going to fail you. And he never will leave you alone to fight this battle. Take care.

I am going through the worst trial in my life and your words are speaking comfort to me. I can’t see God working in the situation and its so difficult to believe he’s going to come through for me. I wish I knew how to rest in knowing that God is in control. So so hard.
July 14, 2014 at 12:18 pm
Marianne Bernard
Dear JD, I am so sorry for your trial but I will be praying for you and standing with you in this battle. My friend, high are the ways of God. None of us can understand them nor how he can work them out for our good. We can’t see what he is doing, nor see him working or audibly hear his comforting voice. It is by faith that we know that all these things are happening but Christ is true to his word! It may not be in the timing that you want or the exact way that you want it to happen but God will do what is good and best for you and what lines up for his purpose and plan for your life. The major thing that sets us apart from the world, JD, is that we BELIEVE what he says by faith! The only way we can do that is to have a relationship with Christ. When Christ lives in you, do you think that anything apart from his will can take you down? Though your pain is great, can you believe that Christ, who is one with you, will let you go through this for no reason? Although you can’t see the reason and your suffering seems to be without merit just trust that Christ has a divine, eternal purpose or it would not be happening. He grieves with you in your pain! He is never happy when one of his is in pain. Just as he allowed Lazarus to die the greater purpose was through his resurrection from the dead. Let God do his work in you. I used to cry outloud in my pain, “My God, I trust you!”. I would say that many times. I did not feel great trust in my heart but by faith I KNEW I could trust him. You must do the same. It is hard but I assure you with all the promises of God that are in his word that he will be with you through this matter, that he will give you his peace through it if you can surrender it to him, and that he will make you stronger and with greater faith for having gone through it.
My friend, I am not mitigating your struggle. I am just telling you that your God is bigger than anything that comes against you and that he will not fail Trust him no matter what direction he takes you. I will be praying for you. I am here for you to email if you want to talk. I care. You, dear friend, are not alone and you never will be. If you continue to struggle, email me and we can set up a time to talk. Don’t stay focused on the situation but on the power of your God. Read your bible daily to be strengthened and God will speak to you through his word. He has a great plan for you and nothing in this world and no one can stop it from being fulfilled. Be in peace for your God goes with you!
God bless you.

Thank you so much Marianne. This is so encouraging. This has been my focus this week to not be focused on the situation, but to refocus on God anytime the situation starts to bring me down. It is so hard. Each day feels like I’m starting over.

Good for you, JD. As you focus more on your God and his power instead of your situation, you not only grow in faith but you get the peace that transcends understanding as you learn to trust that God is more than enough for your problem. God bless you dear friend and thanks so much for commenting!

Hi Marianne,
I have been visiting your site for quite some time now and have found your words really motivating and encouraging. It seems like you are a God’s messanger. Your words are life to all those like me who are going through a tough time and need some encouragement to keep moving.
May God bless you with peace and harmony in your life and may you always find enough strength and reason to keep doing what you are doing.

Hi, my friend, and thank you for your encouraging words. I will keep you in prayer and trust that God will help you through every struggle and storm that you face. Remember, if you belong to Christ, the tough times are being used for HIS purpose to perfect and mold you into his image. The hard times don’t last but the true child of God can never be destroyed. Stay strong, my friend. Stay focused on the truth and please read your bible each morning. Let the truth fill your heart and strengthen you for the battles you will face for that day. God is with you. You cannot lose. I will be praying for you.

Thank you so much for your reply. I do stay strong most of the times but its way too long now and there are moments when i just want things to happen. Though i tell you that for quite some time it seems like he has taken the charge now for the battle that i have been fighting for very long. I clearly see the guidance coming from him through different sources. As you
say that only in difficult times he reveals more of himself to us and i can see that. But i just wish and hope things to change soon. Thanks again for your encouragement.

I understand, friend. It is hard and it is easy to grow weary when the battle lingers on. Your time is coming and God will give you joy in the morning. Remember also that you can email me if you just want to talk. I always have time for a friend. God does not expect you to carry your burden alone.
Be in peace. It is all being worked out for your victory.
