“I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.” Psalm 6:6
People who face painful trials and trouble in their lives can feel defeated as they experience the sorrow of weariness. In Scripture, King David wrote Psalm 6 crying out to God, “My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O LORD – how long?”.
I believe most of us have asked God the same question. As time grows short it is obvious that the devil has stepped up his attacks on believers. Popular revivalist, Vance Havner, once wrote that added trouble by the enemy is “evidence that we are making progress and have aroused him”. He adds that in our discouragement, “A sense of things present will come doubly strong and heaven will seem far away“. We will feel more like sighing than shouting.
The truth is that if you don’t have faith in the darkness of trouble, then it is not enough for the light of good times. Our faith is proved to be genuine only when it is tested! We all grow weary in the battles of this life. It may even appear that evil is overcoming the world. We are not in a losing battle. Our victory is guaranteed! The devil already knows that we have been declared conquerors. Once you fully understand that God’s plan was put in place long before he formed the world, you can have peace knowing that he has prepared a way to take you through every bondage and get you to where he wants you to be.
In Scripture, King David had many enemies who attacked him and yet his trust was in his God. In Psalm 31:14-15 he cries out,“But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, ‘You are my God’. My times are in your hand.” David’s strength came from the fact that he understood that his battles were being fought and won by God’s power. He knew he wasn’t alone. That truth kept him in perfect peace.
The world is growing in rebellion to the ways of God. Do not fear the coming darkness. We are told in Matthew 24:12, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold”. Sin is rampant and you need only watch the news to see a new form of iniquity abounding each day. Truth has been replaced by a lie as evil is called good and good evil. The persecution of Christians is surging all over the world. Even in America, Christianity is being marginalized and laws are being made to punish those who believe the Bible is God’s word.
Betsie Ten Boom and her family were put in death camps for hiding Jews in their home during the Nazi occupation in Holland. In that place of misery, she never doubted God. She said to her sister, Corrie, “There are no ‘ifs” in God’s world. And no places are safer than other places. The center of His will is our only safety.” Betsie took God at his word.
My friends, nothing can ever separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. We are covered for each and every pain and struggle that we face. When things seem like they are not working out and that your prayers are not being answered I implore you to put your faith to the test. Let the hope of God fill your heart. He has not allowed anything to happen in your life that will not fulfill his purpose for your good.
It may not seem like it right now but one day it will be the unshakable hope that fills your heart. You will know that you were never forsaken and that each petition and every tear were before the throne of God and answered in his perfect way. His mercy was always with you. You need to understand that the will of God for your life is good. He is preparing you for the royalty of an eternal Kingdom. In I Cor. 2:9, we are promised, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.”
If your struggle is lasting longer than you feel you can bear, please take heart and seek God out in his word. It is there that you will find the peace you need to hold on. You will see that even when God appears silent, he is actually preparing your heart for his perfect answer. The wait has a purpose and is part of the plan. Don’t give up.

Thank you so much Marianne,
The words you have used obviously have come from someone who has been through severe testing and overcome. This is what real faith in God is all about.
We always think of Faith as something that we wish we had more of but like Abraham, It was not one test and it was over. He was tested continuously throughout his life and although he made mistakes like we all do, he kept his Faith in God and overcame.
We are in the same situation, so again, I thank you for the wonderful post and I pray that God continues to hold you strong in your trials as well. We’re not home yet but we will be soon.

Thanks Marianne for all your encouragement and always sending a great word from the heart of God. My heart has been heavy for my friend who just lost her husband very suddenly from cancer. He passed away a few days after a surgery that was supposed to give him more time. She is very distraught and left with 2 kids to raise. I remember when I first met you online. I was going through a time of devastation that I thought I might never recover from. Your words helped me so much. I could tell that they came from a person who had the life experience to know what she was talking about.
You were right! God DOES lead us out of our darkness. There ARE better days ahead and victory in the Lord – ALWAYS! No matter what your darkness or how deep, God is with you. Psalm 139 tells us that even if we are in the depths of the sea, His hand will guide us and His right hand will hold us fast. He will NEVER let go and in the inky blackness, He’s right next to you. YOU WILL BE OK NO MATTER WHAT!!! We have the promise of eternal life and NOTHING and NO ONE can take that away. This life is a fading vapor and we will be in eternal joy WAY LONGER than we are here.
God bless you today, Marianne, and always and God bless all who find your blog and begin to read life giving and strengthening words that are eternal. I hope you’re doing well. I miss you, my friend and hope to see you again soon.

Hi Anita,
So glad you were inspired by the message God gave me to write. It is a question I have been asking for the past few years as I had trial after trial. In the end, I knew all along that he was with me. My situation is always under his control. I know you understand that also. We can trust our God. He has our best interest in mind in every battle we face.
God bless you dear sister. Email me anytime if you need to talk. I am praying for you.

Dear Nora,
I am so sorry for your friend who lost her husband. I pray for God to provide for her needs and help her in her pain! May she know that God is still with her even though he allowed her husband to die. I will keep her in prayer and her children also. Thank you for being such a good friend to her.
You and I have come to know each other better, Nora. It was such a pleasure to get to meet you after years of emailing each other. I see how God worked in your life. You are a beautiful woman with a heart for God. He took you through your pain and I believed he saved you from harm. His plan is not finished and I believe greater things are in store for you. Thank you for your friendship and love. You have also been a great help to me in times of sorrow. You are a true sister in Christ. I appreciate you, Nora.

Hi Rocco,
Thank you for the encouraging words. I have been through many trials and sometimes they seem like they never end. But I believe, what I think you know also, Rocco, and that is that God does not give us a trial that he doesn’t reveal more of himself to us in. The strength that I garnered in the battle did more for me because I learned to trust that God was enough. My prayers were never unanswered. I learned to trust that God’s ways were better. The size of the test doesn’t matter because God will always be bigger. As A.W. Tozer said, “It is doubtful that God can bless a man greatly until he has hurt him deeply”. Although at first I didn’t like what he said, but as I read through the bible, it was evident that all of those whom God has used in a great way he allowed to go through difficulty. That pain and struggle made them ready for the blessings that God was getting ready to give them. Should we expect anything less? God’s plan is for our good. I don’t have to like it. I just have to take him at his word.
God bless you, Rocco, as you continue to do God’s work.

Dear Faith,
I have to say that I cried when I read your words. You have truly lifted me. I help others because I was given grace when I didn’t deserve it. I have no idea why God would save an arrogant fool like me. Yet he did. As I read his word, I grow in knowledge and wisdom. He reveals more of himself to me each day. Despite the trials and pain I have been through, I count myself blessed beyond measure by a Savior who didn’t give up on me when I gave up on myself. For that reason I cry out to God for those who don’t know him. I pray for those who can’t trust him. Time is short and yet so many are perishing. My heart breaks.
My sister, I am praying God’s blessings on your life. I know you understand that my strength comes solely from Christ. There were times when I couldn’t get out of bed because I was weighed down with my tears. It took his power to lift me and help me to keep going. He is always with me. I don’t have to feel him to know he is here. Your words to me are proof he is watching over me. Thank you for that.
I appreciate you, dear friend. I will keep praying for God to protect and provide for you. I send my love to you. You truly are a sister in Christ.

Thank you for sharing your faith and encouragement. I haven’t picked up His word in 5 days because of the emptiness and sadness I have felt. Like you said… it was as God and heaven were farther away. Thank you for encouraging us and directing us back to Christ as our Savior, Keeper and Provider.

Hi Loucita, struggles and pain can make us feel like God is far away but the truth is that he is always as close as a whisper. He sees where you are, my friend. He knows your pain but most importantly, he knows the plans he has for your life. Let his love fill your emptiness. Read your bible each morning and let the truth of his love and promises bring you the strength that you need to hold on. I am praying for you now and I will continue. Times are tough now for all of us, but you are not alone in your pain. Also, I am here if you need to talk. Just email me.
Be of good hope, Loucita, your God is with you. Watch and see how he takes you through your sadness.

Good Morning Marianne, thank you for praying for my friend and for always being such a great friend. Despite all the pain and tragedy you have had, you always reach out to people and encourage them in the Lord. Thousands (if not millions and billions!) of people will thank you in Heaven. You are an example of how we should all serve the Lord and each other and I SO appreciate all the times you were there for me. God used your friendship, wisdom, experience, and advice to help me through the most difficult experience of my life. I came out of it an overcomer and a stronger warrior. Thank you Marianne! May God heal all your heartache, take all your sorrow away, give you His joy, which is our strength, surround you with His lovingkindness, and flood your body, soul, and spirit with His peace that passes all understanding. May the stupid enemy have no access to you whatsoever. You are a beautiful woman of God and I hope to see you again sometime. God bless you Marianne! Love in Christ, Nora

Hi Nora, God bless you for such a beautiful note of encouragment! You came to my site looking for help in your pain but it was God who put us together as friends and sisters. You were the one I reached out to when I was in great pain. You stood beside me and prayed over me. I can never thank you for your kindness and comfort. I told you before that sometimes when I am really struggling, in my prayers I ask God to have someone praying for me. Almost every time, it is brought to my mind that YOU are praying for me.
Nora, we talked about one day walking in glory with God and how we can spend eternity talking about all God has done for us. I thank God for his gift of your friendship. It is a gift I will forever treasure.
Love you, my dear sister.

Not everyone – few of us even – have the faith of Job (and even if Job’s courage ultimately enabled Yahweh to win his perverse wager with haśśāṭān – what of the suffering and death of his family for whom no mercy was shown?) What if the dark night of the soul is without end, or the end comes without justice and mercy? There are of course easy platitudes and convenient scriptures to proof-text our way out of the conundrum, we can use scriptures this way or that – but I have reluctantly come to the view that God – if there is a God, or if the Judeo-Christian God IS God – is cruelly quiet. The children that went to the gas chambers – their mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers – do you think they were not praying for deliverance? For millions – none came. And the same is true of the Rwanda genocide, and the Arminian genocide, and the genocide in the Balkans, and for the terrified children huddled in cellars in Dresden and Coventry and Hiroshima in WWII and on and on … I wanted to see some way through to the end of the silence and darkness – how I longed to! – but I no longer buy the explanation that because these were man made calamities somehow God’s indifference is acceptable. the challenge for believers remains why an omnipotent and merciful deity is so clearly, painfully absent. I do not hope to convert you from your faith – whatever for?: I am glad for you, that your assertions of faith keep you going through the valley of the shadow of death. it is enough that my own faith is a ruin in the absence of God – so do not join me here in my doubts. But I ask that you at very least consider that for many, there are no answered prayers, no deliverance from the night that has set in about them like a long cold winter. To acknowledge this helps to at very least not make their burden heavier with a false hope, with a hope which can weigh as heavily as despair.

Dear Scott, I am glad that you took the time to share your thoughts with me. I am praying for you, dear friend. I never give false hope in my messages. Everything I write is from God’s word and I have grown to trust his ways even when I don’t understand them. Shall I tell the Creator who spoke the worlds into existence without my help how to answer prayers? Should I counsel the Most High God with my opinion of how he should handle the things of this world? Do I have knowledge of all things in the past and in the future that God alone has? Have I ever given to God that God should repay me?
I know you don’t like my response but please hear me out. Things have not always gone my way. I have not had the best life. Currently, I have some serious health problems that are not easy for me to live with. That does not make me doubt God. He will use all that he allows in my life to be used for my good and his glory. God’s promise is for eternity. This world is not heaven. It was man who brought sin into the world and separated us from God. It was God who gave his Only Son to pay the price for our sins. The fact that Jesus suffered and died to pay the price for your sins should be a sign enough for you to trust in him. Look at the trouble in the world. Lawlessness has increased as evil is being called good and good is called evil. The devil is the great deceiver. He wants to make you think that Jesus doesn’t care about what we are going through. Yet the truth is that Jesus loves us enough to forgive our iniquity and prepare a place in heaven for eternity to those who repent and call upon his name. Job did not understand why he was going through so much suffering, but never once did he blame God! He knew that naked he came into the world and naked he will leave. He knew that his Redeemer still lived. He didn’t like to suffer but his faith was being strengthened through it all. He is with God now in his kingdom.
Scott, I can’t save anyone, but I will be praying for you. Prayer is a powerful weapon against the enemy. I trust that God can open your eyes to the truth of salvation through Christ alone if you ask him. Evil is going to increase but the light of Christ will never fail to shine. He is coming back soon. No one knows the day or the hour, but the signs are all around. The fact is that God knows your name even though you don’t believe there is a God. He doesn’t care what you did, he still wants you. HIs word is filled with promises to those willing to surrender to Christ and be saved. That’s not a religion, it’s about a relationship with Jesus Christ! This world is perishing but Christ has a kingdom that will never end. Read the Bible. Read some of my other articles that expound on the promises of God. Email me if you have any questions. {mbernard4477@gmail.com}. I always have time for a friend.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you may abound in hope” “Romans 15:13
