We are in this world but not of it
As the world news reports the crisis situations of wars, famines, floods, tornadoes, and every evil under the sun, there emerges a question that each person must ask and that is, “Who am I following?”.
Your whole life comes down to a choice in this world that is perishing right before our eyes. Whatever occupies the majority of your thoughts and your time is a key indicator of where you are in your relationship with Christ. We who belong to Christ are called to live as aliens on this earth. Those who seek the kingdom to God are never satisfied with the pleasures of this world. The temporal riches in life can bring more problems than happiness. True joy comes from serving God as only those things which you have surrendered to him will last. As each day brings another set of difficulties, your faith will soon come with a price. Jesus tells us about this in John 15:18-19:
If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
For you to belong to Christ, you must seek the things of his kingdom. If you are too comfortable with the ways of this world, you may need to examine your relationship with Christ. Many people live as if this earth was all that mattered. They are deceived into thinking that they can conform to the world and still be a follower of Christ. You can’t serve two masters. One will always trump the other. It is only the narrow path that leads to eternal life. The enemy will always try to lead you down the wide road of destruction as he compromises the truth to fit your lifestyle. It is a life that will never bring you joy and blessings. You can’t be “almost” saved to get to heaven. When Christ reveals himself to you, there is a radical transformation as your heart of stone is replaced by a heart of flesh that seeks after the will of God. And while there is a process of learning to walk in the ways of righteousness; a man born of God will turn from evil as his renewed spirit is led to follow Christ.
My dear friends, if you truly want victory in your life, there is just one way to have it. It is only by living the crucified life of Christ that you find peace and joy despite your troubles. It is at the foot of the cross that your weaknesses have been made strong and your burdens have been lifted. There is no bondage that can hold a believer who has been set free by the blood of Christ. All of your struggles are working out an eternal, divine purpose to equip you for his good work. In every battle, you are surrounded by the army of the living God who has given his angels charge over your welfare.
As I write this message, there are fellow believers living in restricted and hostile nations who do not have the freedom to worship as they please. They have chosen to risk their lives for Christ. They are not looking for seeker-friendly churches with watered down gospel messages. They are searching for the pure truth despite the consequences. Some have watched as family and friends have been tortured or killed for their faith. Through it all, they do not waver in their resolve to follow the way of the cross. That is true victory! That is the power of Christ making strong those who are willing to suffer for him. That is the kind of faith that defies all understanding.
I know that there are those who visit this site who are enduring trials and heartaches of every kind. The increase of evil everywhere has darkened this world, but nothing can quench the fire of a believer who trusts in the promises of Christ. The fact is that your problems are never able to destroy you. They are allowed by Christ only to take you from where you are to where he is! As difficult as it may seem, you must not grow weary and give up. In your struggle, don’t look at your circumstance, look to your God! You have reason to hope because the One who gave you life holds your future in his hands.
In a time when nothing is certain, you must choose to follow in the ways of truth. Jesus is coming to take those with him who have shown themselves to be true daughters and sons. You need only look around you and watch the news to understand that he is coming soon! While there is still time, give your heart to Christ. Surrender all you have to get all that he has for you. Your eternity depends on it!
I am praying for all who come to this site who are uncertain of their future. May you understand that with Jesus there is a way to know for sure. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at: commish07@zoominternet.net. Let Christ lead you to the truth. You are never alone.

Wow! What an accurate, powerful presentation of the Gospel!!! The curcified life – yes, that’s it! Crucified with Him, taking up our cross daily, and rasied to walk in newness of life now and forever. My prayer is that this biblical depiction of the Good News will we used by the Holy Spirit to covict and compel those in darkness to come to the light of Christ. And To Him be all the glory!

Greetings Linden, I was hoping that you would make it here. I guess we all need to realize that our hope, our strength and our victory only comes from living the crucified life. It is the enemy who tries to convince us to take pleasure from this earth instead of from our God. The only true happiness and joy comes from being in the presence of our God!
Thank you for always being a friend and a source of encouragement for me!

Matthew 16:24-25 – Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Many stand on the edge of trusting Christ today, yet, hesitate believing they will lose everything that is meaningful. Just the opposite is true. The Evil One would have people believe that choosing Christ means losing what matters. What one may lose is of no value in comparison with gaining a relationship with Jesus and life eternal. What we lose by keeping our lives for ourselves is our souls, salvation, eternal life; all things of eternal value are lost to those who reject the Son of God.
Thank you for a moving and timely post. Blessings to you, Marianne…

Great post! It reminded me of the words Jesus said in Mathews 5: 11-12 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad…” I have learned that the way to live the Kingdom of Heaven is not the way that is it commonly lived on earth. We are taught that we are supposed to fight for our rights, always be happy, buy the best clothes, be slim, etc. But Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek, be joyful and not always happy, be humble, serve others. It is definitely not what this world teaches us. There is no doubt in my mind that the world in getting worse, not because I am pessimistic, but because it is actually happening, even non-Christians must admit this. To me, finding Jesus in going out on the streets and helping others, loving the ones who hate me, being humble, without expecting others rewards, but believing that we are doing it to please God. In Matthew 11:29 Jesus said “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” First Peter 2:21 says “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps”

Hi Carol Ann! You said it exactly right.. the enemy does try to convince people that to have Christ requires you to give up all the things that matter. What a lie! When you surrender it all, you get back more blessings than you can hold. While we will still have struggles on this earth, Christ is working it all for our good now and for eternity to come. I believe that one of the biggest lies the enemy uses to get more people to hell is to convince them that they have plenty of time to decide if they want to follow Christ. Sadly, too many believe that lie!

Hi Noel, what a great comment. The ways of God and his kingdom are so much higher than we know here on earth. It goes against the world’s thinking to give even when you don’t have much. And who can understand loving those who are most unlovely? Our carnal nature does is not comfortable in humility and yet that to humble ourselves is what we are called to do. Blessed are those who live as citizens of heaven while enduring the trials here on earth!

Hi Marianne,
Another great post full of so much truth. Someone once said “The choices we make today, will echo into eternity”
Through our trials we need to remember what our Lord said…..”and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

Hi Rocco, glad you stopped by. How right you are that our choices today will impact into eternity! That is why I strive to line my ways up with those of Christ and to follow in his ways not mine. There is nothing greater that I could want other than what Christ has promised for those who remain faithful to him to the end!

Hi Marianne,
I believe there is a great chance Jesus will be returning soon. We who are living today may very well see His return. He has sent us out into the world to be a light. Lets be that light now while we still can because the moment we step into eternity we will never be able to share the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ again to an unsaved person. Lets live to bring glory to God.
God bless you and you are in my prayers,
Ken

Hi Marianne,
Thank you so much for your prayers and your kind words. I appreciate them very much.
As far as my job is concerned, things are looking better at being able to stay employeed where I work, but not out of the woods yet, so to speak. I will have to wait until Aug. and see what it all looks like then. As for now there is enough work until then. But chances are good at staying employeed. But it is all in God’s hand.
You too are in my prayers. If there is anything I can be praying for, let me know. I always enjoy reading your blog and come away so blessed. You too, stay strong and keep serving the Lord.

Hi Patty Ann- I am always joyful when you visit! Isn’t it something how we worry about the smallest things when the return of Christ is upon us? We need to learn to just give them up because all of our problems can only work out the purppse for our lives for which Christ intended. And his plans for us are only for good.
Thanks for always brightening my day with your comments and support.

Marianne, we are now just hours away from when some person or gathering, cult or group has declared as the end of the world or the beginning of the rapture or some story such as that. Not even the angels of Heaven have insight to that final day of mankind as we know it. The truth is with each passing moment, the world ends for someone…and eternity begins. We all must face that reality and we all need to establish someone who can be trusted as God’s oracle to our existence while we walk on this earth. YOU CAN BE TRUSTED! I have found that your counsel is wise and offers comfort for the suffering, hope for the beleaguered, and assurance for the hereafter through Jesus Christ, our Lord. I admire and respect your ministry. You have an awesome calling in your life.

I am reading a book by Dallas Willard; ‘The Devine Conspiracy’. Not easy reading but well worth the time spent doing so. So far his point is that we have exchanged the gospel, which is supposed to be about ‘kingdom living’, for ‘We are not perfect; just forgiven’ which excuses our lack of the life the gospel says we should have. We have given up going for it – wrote it off as unattainable. But it is attainable and I believe the Lord is stirring us to hunger for it . . . and for some to then write about what we have discovered . . . as you have done here.

You are that one who mentors, guides and always is there to hear me out. I really appreciate you. Soon and very soon, we will be in the face of our God and talking about the blessings God gave to us on this earth. You definitely are one of my blessings!

But the truth is that you do have the power to overcome if you can just believe it. I am finishing up an article with you in mind. A thought that came to my mind as I was writing it and thinking of you is that the only lie that can hurt you is the one you believe! LV, you don’t have to believe that your struggles are going to destroy you. I am praying so hard for you and I just know that you are going to make it. I know you will see the truth and know just how much God loves you. It will take time, but it will happen. I love you dear, dear friend. Please, always let me know how you are doing. I will be with you! 🙂

Hello Marianne,
Today was the first time, that I visited your blog. You have a wonderful ministry! I will definitely visit again.
Sometimes, we need to be reminded that we are in this world, but not of this world. This world is not our eternal home, by any means! I thank God, because His Word says, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am, there ye may be also.”
May you continue to allow God to use you, for such a time as this! God bless!

Hi Paulette, thank you for your visiting and commenting. We do need to be reminded that we are not of this world. Only by understanding that all that we face here is only the preparation for the kingdom that will never end that we can stand in our faith not waver when trouble hits us.
I have been to your site and I am definitely impressed with your teachings. God bless you, my sister.

Dearest Marianne – your posts give me so much hope. I have been reading through them for the last few days, trying to imprint the messages on my heart. And this one especially, being ‘chosen, out of the world’. My entire life since childhood has been one of constant moving, house to house, city to city, job to job and country to country. Its made it incredibly difficult to make friends, particularly since my marriage ended over 9 years ago, leaving me to raise 4 children alone, who are now 9, 10 13 and 15. But it is because of that feeling of isolation, that i finally found myself face to face with God again, fully dependent and reliant on Him. And it is through this that i have daily submitted myself to His Will, and found the courage to remove much of the fear and anxiety that overwhelmed me in the early years as a single parent. I have dreams and hopes and aspirations for my future and my childrens future, being able to have our own home being paramount, because the constant moving is so unsettling. But over the past few years I have found comfort in the possibility that perhaps God did not want me to get comfortable in this world, because He has other plans for me. I so relate to your comment ‘We, who are aliens in this world, are lonely for believers who share the same passion for Christ’ That is how I feel. Like an alien. I know many good people, and many faithful Christians, but none of them are seeking a living relationship with the living God in the way that my life has lead me to. I am lucky enough to live in a beautiful country which has so far been spared the trials and tribulations that assault so many other countries (though I know our turn is coming, without a doubt), and I am blessed to have always had ‘enough’ – and enough to share in helping others less fortunate. But while I look at the lives so many others are living with material wealth, financial security with large groups of friends and social networks, and see much to appeal, i am so divided spiritually by such excess in the face of such extreme poverty and hardship and need faced by the larger majority in our world today. It feels like if I have more, then someone somewhere more in need, will have less.
So I have set my aspirations aside, to trust that God will always lead me to where I need to be, at the right time. That He will help me, to help myself and provide for my family in the way that He deems perfectly designed to help us walk closer to Him.
You make such a difference in the world Marianne, and I truly believe that the minute the words leave your mind for the page, no matter how many physical readers you have, your words travel around the world, like the air under a butterflies wings and find a home in the hearts of many who will never have the opportunity to know you, or to thank you. So let me thank you for them, and myself, and my children, because your words are a living essence of a living and loving God, who works all things for the good. You are in my prayers that your walk in life be in peace always.

Dearest Susan, How blessed I am that God led you to my site to give me such encouragement at a time when I really need it! You will never know how much your words have helped me today. Believers will always have troubles in this world. This is not because God does not care for us but that he has something so far greater in mind for each of us and the trials we face are actually getting us ready to receive them! I always say that nothing is for nothing. There is always a purpose and a divine, eternal ramification in every single painful trial we face. That doesn’t mean that we have to enjoy the suffering but only that we must trust through the suffering knowing that our God meets us in every storm. He is working it out and he has plans to use it to make us stronger in this present world until he takes us to his kingdom.
Susan, as believers, we are strangers and we do feel lonely for the fellowship of other believers. I want you to know that you are in my heart and will be always in my prayers. You are an inspiration to me. I pray that our friendship will continue and grow as long as God gives us breath. Please email me so that we can talk. I want you to know that we are now family and I will be here for you. God bless you, my sister. You have made a difference in my life today – all because you cared enough to write.
