Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard” (Daniel 10:12)
Probably one of the hardest steps of faith is believing that God hears and will help us when we call on him in prayer. We are still living in a world that has dimensions and boundaries and our finite minds have limits to our understanding in difficult matters. We, therefore, need a measure of faith to see past that which is seen and go deeper into that which is unseen. The only way to please God is by trusting him despite the storms that we face in a world that is literally being destroyed by sin. Although it is not visible to our eyes right now, there is a battle that is taking place all around us in the heavenly realms. Darkness is covering the horizons in every corner of this world as evil is seeking to destroy everything in God’s creation. So when we are faced with a painful trial, it is easier to believe what we can see than what we can’t see. Yet, it is at our lowest point of a struggle that we must lift our eyes in prayer and believe that our God is not going to let us be devoured by the enemy of destruction.
It may seem impossible to live with a heart that is breaking but God has promised us in his word that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3) He is not slow to help and he will never fail you even when it seems that you are being crushed by the weight of your pain. If you could see the very real battle that is taking place all around you, you would understand that you are being guarded by the forces of heaven. Every step you take as a believer is guided by the hand of God who knows the path you must take to victory. Every prayer that you present to Christ is heard and he knows what is right and perfect for you. Your whole life is before his eyes and he is answering you in ways that for now, you may not understand. The solid truth is that Christ never stops working all things out for your good! When you lift up your prayers and petitions, you are surrendering all of your struggles to the will of God. You are seeking his strength and his power to help you stand in faith believing the God who saw your unformed body in the womb and who numbered all of your days before even one of them came to be. Nothing of your life is hidden from him. Your fear and despair in a trial stem from not understanding the power of God and his unfailing love for you. Never will his eyes leave you for one second! Why can you not understand that you are worrying about things that Jesus already has worked out?
I have been through a lot of pain in my life but I can now rest in the fact that the purpose and plan God has for my life cannot be stopped. I can trust that he is right next to me when I pray and that he always hears. No pain can consume my life because my God will always be bigger than anything I face. I believe that God will go ahead of me in every battle and lead me into victory against my enemies. I know that God is faithful and that I can take him at his word. My future is in his hands and he is the joy of my life. At the moment of Christ’ death, the temple veil that enclosed the holy of holies was torn signifying our new access to the throne of God in every prayer! Believers are right there with Christ in every petition that is made to him. The devil can’t stop our prayers nor can he hinder God from answering them.
My dear friends, I say all this to encourage you through the trials you are facing. You can still have a future despite a broken marriage or a relationship that is not working out. Your financial struggles are not going to be forever. Job situations and serious health issues are still under the sovereignty of God. My greatest lesson in God’s love came when I trusted him at a time when I had no strength of my own in an impossible situation. His power is greater than a painful struggle or addiction. His strength is perfected in any weakness that we surrender to him. We can trust our God in every area of life and we can trust him in death. There is nothing good that he will ever withhold from those who belong to him. Never let the silence make you think that God is not doing something for your cause. Remember that Elijah had to wait on the mountaintop for the quiet whisper of God after he faced the powerful wind, the earthquake, and the great fire. No matter how or when he chooses to do it, never doubt that God will show up and fight against that which is coming against you!
Dear Lord, I am lifting up those who are going through a storm in life that is making them weary. They want to believe that you will show up in time to help them but the enemy has been filling their minds with lies. I pray that you will give them your peace that passes understanding and open their hearts to know that you are with them right now. They don’t have to see you or feel you in order to know that you are there. Show them that their prayers are heard by you and you will resolve the issues they face. Let them know that you will never leave them to fight against the battles of this world alone. I pray that they will listen for that small whisper of hope that you are ready to give them. Lord Jesus, I believe your promises never fail. Amen

Just beautiful, Marianne! Encouraging, hopeful, genuine, and true! There are so many that need to hear this. It is so easy for us to get swallowed by our circumstances but, as you wonderfully articulated, nothing escapes His notice. God is always looking out for our eternal good whether or not we can see or sense it. Thanks for sharing, my friend!

Thank you, Linden. I always appreciate you stopping and sharing with me. I also want to tell you that your book Captivated By The King and his Kingdom is just awesome. You are a powerful teacher. I like that after each chapter that you have an area of how to apply each teaching on the sermon on the Mount. God bless you, my friend, for your faithfulness to Christ.

“Darkness is covering the horizons in every corner of this world as evil is seeking to destroy everything in God’s creation.” Powerful sentence, and your whole edifying article points to the fact that evil, although utterly threatening, is not a force that can ever withstand God’s goodness or thwart His holiness, justice, glory, plans or promises toward us, His beloved sheep! Thank you for this encouraging reminder. Blessings!

Greetings Marianne, It’s been a tough winter for all of us that has left us weary. I very recently went for a long drive alone to just be alone with my thoughts. As I drove across a very rough mountain from my childhood, I was filled with dread and apprehension. I asked myself aloud, “why would anyone ever want to live in a place like this?” At length, I came to the little settlement nestled between two mountains and turned up an unmarked road where I found a lady standing in her yard with her son and small grandchild. I stopped my truck and stepped from the vehicle. “Are you Sylvia,” I asked? Immediately, my cousin’s arms were around my neck. We visited at long length there beside my truck in the driveway. Later, we were joined by her husband and sat in the sunlight on the porch. How quickly was the dread driven away and the apprehension forced to depart. There in that dreadful place, I found a quite peace and a joy that passes understanding…I want to go back to that place where everyone that I asked about was referred to as, “THAT IS THE SWEETEST PERSON.”
In the midst of our storms when the sky is black and dark clouds are rolling in, when life is just a little less than what we think it should be, we discover this place of solitude where Marianne Lordi reassures us from God’s Word that there really is shelter in the storm. Thank you as always for helping us to turn our eyes upon Jesus.

Thank you, Rev. York, for visiting and sharing but mostly for always encouraging me. From your description of that town, I can just imagine that the place you visited was a small hiding place where you could shut out the screams of a carnal world for just a little while. Oh, I know that evil has infiltrated just about every cubit of the earth, but there are some places where the people somehow shine more light than there is darkness. I really long so much for a place like that and then I remember that God already has that planned for those who are his. An eternal place of peace where the glory of Christ is the light and there are no people with agendas screaming out for the evil that they feel are their “rights”!
I have come a long way in my life and readily admit that I am the worst sinner but one who has been saved by grace. One truth I do know and that is that prayer matters. I know without a doubt that God meets me every single night as I pour out my heart to him and seek his help with every one of the prayer requests that I get. I don’t have to see him to know that his ear is attentive to my requests and that he will make a perfect way to help all those whom I pray for. I sadly just wonder why it took me so long to know that.
I want you to know that I appreciate your friendship, Rev. York. I know your heart.

Dear Marianne, Your latest writing is like a cool drink-of water for a thirsty soul. You have been so encouraging to me, for which I shall be eternally grateful. You have “hit the nail on the head” regarding prayer. God delights in the prayers of His people, and also He hears the prayers of a repentant sinner. In this day of apostasy, He is our strength and our buckler and shield. I think we are going to see in the days ahead that only the “old time gospel” works, and not this neo-modernist, fleshly, carnal imitation. It begins with our prayer and communion with Him. I thank you so much for your prayers, and your ministry of hope. I love you. God bless you, Charles

Hi Charles, I am so grateful that you stopped by. As you know, your teachings have been such a source of inspiration to me and I pray for God’s continued annointing on you. I believe that you are right on that we will see that it is the “old time gospel” and the truths that were given that is going to be our place of hope. The times are bad now and it is growing darker by the day. We who are in Christ need never fear for he will never fail us.
God bless you, Charles, and thank you for being such a great friend and mentor.

What a wonderful post! It reminded me of what I recently read in James MacDonald’s new book Always True: God’s 5 Promises for When Life is Hard – that God is always with us, always in control, always good, always watching and always victorious. It’s an awesome book.

Hi Amy! So glad you visited! I am going to check out MacDonald’s book. I have read other books of his. What he says is exactly what I try to get out there in all of my messages. If we can believe that God is sovereign, that he has authority over everything that comes against us as believers, then we can have some insight to know that he will use it all for our good! No trial that we face ever has power to defeat us or crush us. The pain we might endure in our struggles is working out a far greater benefit for us and will give us greater strength in future battles.
Thanks again for your comment. Please stop back.

Hi Marianne. So many important truths are brought out here. God knows our every need and hears our every syllable. He is eternal and not bound by the confines of physical circumstance. And as Ephesians 3:20 reminds us, he can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. I mean, try as we may, we cannot imagine a situation so impossible that the Lord couldn’t remedy it with just a word.
In your final paragraph, an important truth is touched on. All that we see and touch is temporal. Our circumstances are temporary and soon we’ll depart this realm and be forever in the presence of Jesus.
Thanks for bringing up a most important topic. Blessings always in Jesus name.

Hi Micah, My heart breaks for you and I will be praying for you each night. I know that the enemy is targeting families and trying to destroy them. God does hear your prayers. If we take him at his word, we are told that he never leaves us. He is with us at all times. He knows your pain and heartache. He sees the battle that you are facing and he is willing to help those who have put their trust in him. Micah, no matter what happens, God has a plan for your life. He knows how to rescue those who call on him. I will be praying for your family to be restored and be made whole. I pray that the love that you both had for each other would be made stronger and better than before. Be sure to read your bible each day. The enemy is looking to discourage you through this trial and it is only in knowing the truth that you can take a stand against his schemes. Pray for your family and ask God to change your heart to be more receptive to him. I am here for you if you need to talk. My email address is listed on my site. Don’t give in to fear, Trust that Christ can work through this matter. I will keep praying for you, my friend! Let the peace of God give you strength.

Hello!
I’ve been reading through a lot of your posts and I find them incredibly encouraging. I thank God for leading me to your website. One thing that I really struggle with is truly, truly believing what I’m praying for. I’m going through a rather important set of exams now. I have been studying hard of course, but as you said, God has set everything out for me. There are two ways of looking at it. I struggle with being content with what God has planned. I feel guilty asking what if I’m not happy with what God’s plans for me, or at what he wants me to do in life? What if I don’t get the results I want despite studying hard and praying hard? Is it a lack of absolute faith? I know exams are trivial compared to what others on this site are experiencing, but this year, I have really experienced the highs and absolute lows in my walk with Christ.

Hi Mel, I can tell you right now that you are letting doubts cloud your thinking. We serve a God for whom there is no confusion.. Confusion and doubt are from the enemy. That is why you must take captive every thought to the obedience of Jesus Christ. The devil himself used doubt to confuse Eve when he tempted her. That is one of his sharpest arrows of battle. Keep that in mind. You asked what if you are not happy with the plans that God has for you. The truth is how could you NOT be happy with God’s plans. Remember, Mel, that God sees the begiining of your life to the end. He alone knows what is good for you. He is not going to lead you on a path that is not good or that you will fail at. He has a purpose in everything he takes you to. When I felt the call to go into prison ministry, I rejected it. I made every excuse not to do it. That was nowhere near what I wanted to do but the calling was strong. I went and began teaching at the county jail and also went to death row to mentor some of the inmates there. I cannot begin to tell you how this ministry (that I tried to avoid) has been my biggest blessing ever! I cannot believe what God has done for me and through me all because I obeyed his call. What I thought I wouldn’t like has now become my passion. Reaching the lost in jails and prisons is a way that I have received so many blessings and knowledge that would not have happened otherwise. The same is true for you, Mel. Commit your ways to God and he will make your plans succeed. He has planned your future and it is a good one! But you must surrender your ideas and plans to his if you want to be succesful. God knows your heart, my friend. He knows the desires you have. You must trust that he will give you what is good. Believe me when I tell you that we don’t always know what is good. We are blessed that God does and he does not withhold one thing that is good from us.
I am glad that you have been encouraged by the messages here. Everything I have written are things that God has brought me through and has revealed his strength to me in. I will be praying for you, Mel. I know you are going to do well and I am sure that Christ will reveal to you the path you should take. Trust him. Do what he is calling you to do. You will never be sorry.
Stop back soon and let me know how you are doing. I will be lifting you up each night in prayer. God bless you, Mel.

Hi Esther,
I will be praying for you and for your marriage. It is sad that homes are being destroyed by the lies of the enemy. I know myself that it is hard to keep a marriage together when one spouse is not saved. Keep praying for your husband and interceding on his behalf that God in his mercy will bring your husband to the end of himself so that he will know that he needs a Savior. I pray for God to give you wisdom and insight in what to do in your marriage. Have faith, dear Esher, that God can do great things with your prayer. And always remember, that he will provide for you and take you through this situation no matter what the outcome for your marriage. I will be praying for you, my sister. Keep your eyes on Christ. Read your bible daily so that you will be equipped to handle the attacks of the enemy. Say a prayer over the pillow your husband puts his head on at night. May he hear the voice of God calling him even as he sleeps. It is in God’s hands, Esther. I am here for you if you ever want to talk. You can email me if you wish to talk privately. You are not alone.

Wow. This is moving thank you so very much for this. I’m back with the live of my life but one worry from my previous and recent relationship clouds my mind. I fear things and hope to god nothing could mess up what I now have again. I’ve made mistakes and all I can think about is how I’m going to be punished for them rather than be forgiven and protected. I pray I do, but I wonder if he hears me. If he actually will help. My faith always seems to lead me to god and prayer thought my difficult times, to right my wrongs and forgive my mistakes. But sometimes I can only wonder if my luck has finally run out.

Hi Tamara, I am so sorry for your pain. I know what you are going through as I am also going through a broken marriage. It can literally break your heart in two. However, please remember that if you belong to Christ, he alreaday saw this trial you face. He has prepared a perfect plan for your life despite what you are doing through. You are not alone, dear sister. Your pain is ever before Christ and he has a plan to take you through it. He will lead the way for you. Have no fear of your future for God knows how to restore what the enemy stole from you. I will be praying for you. Please know that I care and that I am here for you if you want to talk.

Hi Marianne,
Funny how you write something and it stands the test of time, to be available for God’s purpose at the right time. What a blessing to read this morning during our time of stress here.
Thanks for your faithfulness,

Hi Dan, it is funny but I saw that you commented on this message and I re-read what I wrote – or rather what God gave me to write. It was amazing but it was like I was seeing it for the first time. It is a message that I needed to hear as I face the pain of a marriage break-up. My heart seems crushed beyond repair but after reading this again, I am confident that my God is more than able to take me through this trial. He holds my future and there is nothing that is going to stop his purpose and plan for my life.
I am glad you stopped by, Dan. Whatever you are facing, it should comfort you to know that God is not only with you, he has prepared your victory through it! That is the real promise that stands the test of time. God bless you, dear brother.

I do not know really what to believe. I have been a believer all my life, entrusted my faith fully to my God and I did, the more I trusted, the more I prayed, the more I closed my eyes, shed tears, the deeper I went down with depression, and debts, more poverty, sickness in my family, death in the family, sexual abuse in the family, joblessness, 600 job application never replied, bad grades, more sickness, more death in the family, more poverty, then after 38 years, I just had it. Maybe this was someone else God. I do not know what to believe anymore..i just do know…but maybe, that is but life, one has to go on living…
thank you.for the space.

Hi Richard,
I am so sorry for what you are going through but I am glad that you stopped here. I will be praying for you, my friend. If you are seeking God, he is not just the God for someone else. He is the true God who loves you with an unfailing love and who wants to help you. I sense that there is something else going on in your life, Richard. I would like for you to email me at: lordi.marianne7@gmail.com so we can talk privately if you wish. First of all, everyone in this world has deaths in their family. This is not heaven. We will die. And to those who belong to Christ, we will suffer for his name. But we have hope. That hope is that all that we go through is working out something good for us and to strengthen us in the battles we face. I am going through a lot of pain and trouble in my life right now but I know that God is with me. If he is allowing it in my life there is a specific purpose and it will work out for my good. True believers see with eyes of faith. The world only looks at their circumstance but those who put their trust in Christ believe that he will take them through it. Nothing is impossible with God.
Richard, do you have a pesonal relationship with Christ? I am not talking about religion but about a personal oneness with Christ. It comes from surrendering all you have in this life to get all that he has to give to you. You give up your will to take on the will of Christ. You crucify your flesh because you know that it keeps you from a full relationship with God. Jesus told us that we would have many problems in this world but that we should take joy for he has overcome them all! That means that whatever we face, it has no power to destroy true believers in Christ.
I want to go over some more things but would like your input. If you email me, we can talk this over and reason it by Scripture. I don’t have all the answers but my God does. I care about what you are going through. I know how alone and weary you can feel in your trials. I will be praying for you. Don’t give up now. Let the truth open your eyes to understanding. I will help you.

Dear Marianne,
You wrote and published this post in 2011 but I needed it today in 2013. 🙂
I am in a place where I know I need to trust God to provide because I do not know what will be next in my life– if my career dreams to be a creative professional will come true or if God wants me to take another detour (I’ve been in other careers). I’m still young but I just wish I knew exactly what to do next. And I do pray but like others have commented in this post, I too struggle with believing God will provide what I’ve prayed for so please pray for me (it can be very overwhelming to the point where I get physically sick). And keep writing these beautiful, REAL, and inspiring blog posts about the reality of God and His promises! 🙂
Sincerely,
Alexis

anonymous, I am sorry that your sister is going through a bad divorce. It may seem like God is not hearing your prayers but that is not true, my friend. He has a plan for those who belong to him. Even in the middle of a divorce, God can help your sister and still give her a future with hope. She will not be destroyed by this situation if she keeps her eyes on Christ. I know what she is going through. I know how painful it can be. But I also know that the God is going to be with her the whole way and he will help her. Don’t give up just because you can’t see the resolution of all this. God has the plan and he never fails for those who are his. Please tell your sister to read her bible and get the strength she needs from God’s word. He speaks to us through his word. I will be praying for her. Be strong, my friend. Do not let the lies of the enemy take your family down. In Christ, we are victors! You will see his help in this matter. I am here if you want to email me to talk.

Hi Alexis, I am so glad you stopped by. My friend, you do need to trust that God has the plan for your life because he does. If you belong to Christ, his purpose and future for you cannot be stopped. He has good things for you but you must wait on him. It is not easy to wait while God works things out. We always think he takes too long. But that is not true. He is working it all out for you right now as we speak. Faith trusts that God will do all that he promised even when it seems like all hope is gone. Nothing is impossible for our God. There is no limitations on his power. Whatever is good, he will give to you. You must learn to stand in faith even in the middle of a storm because he is with you through it all. Read your bible each day. Let the truth of God’s word give you the strength you need to believe. He speaks through his word. Take the time to read a little each morning and watch as your faith grows.
I am praying for you, Alexis, and I am here if you want to email me to talk. God created you for his glory and his purpose. Don’t let the devil try to steal your hope and joy. You have an inheritance in Christ. He knows the beginning of your life to the end. He knows what is good for you. When doubt creeps in, use the word of God to cast out your fears and uncertainty. He is not going to leave you, dear friend. You are loved way too much for that to happen. I am here and I will be praying. You are never alone!

Hi Ann, I am sorry that you are struggling emotionally but I will be praying for you. We are all facing troubles but none of them are bigger than our God. Read your bible, Ann. Let God speak to you through his word. He will give you his guidance and strength to face all of your problems. Nothing is impossible for him. My dear sister, if Christ lives in your heart, you do not need to beg him. He loves you, friend, and he sees your heart and knows your pain. He will help you. While you wait on him to work this all out, please seek him each day in his word. I promise you that you will gain strength and power for the truth of his promises to you. In the meantime, I am praying for you and you can email me anytime you want to talk. God bless you and may he bring you peace.

Hi friend, I am so glad you stopped. I am sorry that you are experiencing a painful time right now but you are right that God hears your prayers for your child. Whatever you are facing, surrender it to Christ and let him work it out. In his perfect timing, he will heal this situation. If you belong to Christ, he will give you his strength while you are waiting. I know it is hard to wait on God’s timing but you know that his ways are higher and there is a definite good reason for the wait. I am praying for you, my friend. I will keep you in prayer and trust that God can still give you peace as hold on in faith. Nothing is too big for God to handle. Don’t look at the circumstance because it has no power to change the future for you or your child. Look to your God and trust that he can and will be all that you need. Please stop by anytime to let me know how you are doing. You can email me if you want to talk privately. You’re not alone, dear one. It will work out.

Hi lamching, I am so glad that God gave you hope through the message he gave me to write. Remember that we are in a time when troubles are everywhere. It is a dark time and everyone is going through struggles. We who are in Christ need never look at our circumstance but rather we need to trust that his is indeed working all things out for our good. Hears your prayers. Just give him time to do his perfect work in you. He will sustain you through your battle. Hold on and trust! God will never fail you. In the right time you will see his answer to your struggle. I am praying for you, dear friend!
